Teacher for the Teachers, December 11, 2011
    By
    VT (Denver, CO) –

Darren was my first yoga teacher and introduced me to the notion of living the life I was supposed to live, and becoming who was meant to be. That’s what yoga teachers do; guide us to examine our lives, teach us to understand body awareness, and invite us to living consciously. But it takes more than knowing how to teach yoga to create change in ourselves, in our families, in our students, in our communities, and in the wider world we live in. If yoga teachers want to reach more people, it is imperative to live off the mat too, which includes living a life ethically and spiritually–and it also includes marketing, budgeting, advertising, promoting, balancing checkbooks and doing taxes. Darren breaks this down and provides numerous suggestions and resources. He leaves nothing out and offers his life experience (successes and mistakes) and gives actual details about how to run a yoga workshop, what to include in a yoga retreat, how to promote yourself as a teacher, and what to charge as appropriate fees. As a yoga teacher, I found myself inspired to creatively, spiritually, and ethically reach out to bring yoga to more people. The gift that Darren brings is that he is a teacher for teachers. This book brings his knowledge and expertise to one place, where teachers and yoga enthusiasts can cheer that teaching yoga, whether part-time or full-time, is a profession, not a hobby; and that ethics, philosophy, and spiritually are part of our lives and in our businesses.

    Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This is the book I wish I had known about before beginning my Yoga certification. The part of the book I think most useful is the initial discussion of why do you want to teach and what is your specialty…..I have been teaching full-time for 5 years and it took me 1/2 m career to really ask myself the questions the author poses. Once I did, choices for classes became easier, my desire to teach became stronger. Recently my cousin decided after experiencing the positive affects of Yoga after an invasive surgery that she wants to commit her retirement years to teaching yoga. But like many people who have the desire she didn’t have a clue where to start….I suggested this book and she has really found it to be a great resource. She has now found a certification program she likes, and understanding of what her speciality is, and where she would like to teach.

    I highly recommend this book.

This review is from: The Yogi Entrepreneur: 2nd Edition: A Guid to Earning a Mindful Living Through Yoga (Paperback)
Conclusion first: I highly recommend this book to anyone who is considering making any sort of an income from being a yoga teacher.

I have an extensive background in business strategy and development, and I still got a lot out of this book. It is a practical guide on how to establish yourself as a yoga teacher, whether part-time or full-time, and it provides tangible advice for tools to use. Moreover, I really appreciate Darren’s discussion around what it means to be a “yogi” entrepreneur (in terms of business ethics, etc.) and allowing yoga to be a part of how you do business both inside and outside of the yoga studio.
